Author Robert Halsey and his wife enjoy placing themselves in other people's shoes. When they come across a story in the news, they imagine how they would react in a similar situation. These hypothetical situations inspired Halsey to write his new book of short stories, "Canticle for Calyute" (published by Partridge Singapore).

Halsey's book of short stories takes place all over the world. Readers are transported to Australia, Congo, the Sahara Desert, Singapore, Sinjar, Iraq and Haiti. The characters of "Canticle for Calyute" come from all over the world and all seek different things. The stories are connected by the moral, political and social ambiguities that Halsey believes define the 21st century.

"I want readers to take away cerebral enjoyment; not just the teasing and challenges, but a deeper satisfaction that is the true watermark of good literature." Halsey says. "I would like them to return to some of the stories again."

An excerpt from "Canticle for Calyute":

"Was there some insight that made him utter these strange and intriguing words? I stood looking at him in wonder at what had just transpired. Was it possible that our souls had been in some kind of intuitive communication; likeness calling to likeness? I was finding it difficult to cope with this explosion that had the energy of an epiphany."
