The Gospels are the foundation documents of the Christian faith; they set out the truth of God and the way for believers to follow. Amongst the four, however, the Gospel of John baffles many although it depicts of the same Jesus of Nazareth. With the release of Richard Ferguson's "A Reading of John" (published by Xlibris UK), he presents a faithful, straightforward chronicling of John, in a way the modern mind understands.

"A Reading of John" is an original presentation of the Gospel of John where the author gives an in-depth translation. Ferguson picks up the clues within the Gospel, and how it was written, and demonstrates an approach which enables readers to understand why this Gospel is so different from the others, who was its intended audience and how people can read it and understand it for themselves.

"This book does not dwell on what has been written ABOUT the Gospel of John; it takes the text we have received as the evidence from which to answer the many questions that inevitably arise," Ferguson shares. "Its approach to understanding this Gospel is modern, direct, and driven by the Gospel itself and how its author went about setting out the good news of Jesus of Nazareth. The result is a direct, cogent and helpful approach to the Gospel, and in the reflections we are given we are brought close to 'The Word made flesh.'"

Groundbreaking and edifying, "A Reading of John" is an essential reading for preachers and teachers, and all for whom truth and "life in all its fullness" is important.

About the Author
Richard Ferguson has served as a parish priest in the Church of England for more than 40 years. Now active in retirement, he has written extensively about the Gospels, not least his challenging "Listen to the Gospels," in which he faces the paradoxes and puzzles which the four Gospels give to 21st century minds, and from them produces discoveries and understandings which greatly enrich the understanding of the Gospels. His first love was the Gospel of Mark, which he has translated and recited on more than 50 occasions. Now in his 70s, his writing benefits from years of mature reflection.
