Richard Cook, a bio-research scientist, wrote the book, "Is There a Mountain of Difference between Us or 'Common Ground'?": to address the dysfunctional level of polarization in society.

Richard believes that one of the most important life skills is the ability to be receptive to the ideas and opinions of others, particularly when they differ sharply from one's own. Nature has programmed everyone to be wary of things that are new, foreign or different. But, in the 21st Century the pendulum seems to have swung too far toward "I'm right and you're wrong; end of discussion."

Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Richard Cook's book graphically engages middle school children and adults by showing how different people (or groups) can all have very different beliefs - yet that fact doesn't necessarily mean that one of the people (or groups) is wrong! In fact, this story clearly illustrates how it's possible for all their different opinions (or beliefs) to all be correct. Not only that, the story also shows how all the groups' appreciation for their sacred mountain (i.e. God) was ultimately enhanced by learning of the other groups different opinions about it.

This story also introduces young people to the challenges and importance of Global Warming and provides a symbolic example of how United Nations (UN) can help those people most vulnerable to it.

After the story, the author applies the basic message of the book to religious beliefs, the Piaget principle, the shape of celestial constellations and the results obtained from scientific experiments.

Readers who wish to experience this enlightening work can purchase "Is There a Mountain of Difference between Us or 'Common Ground'?" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
