Richard Carl Bright's 'Pain and Purpose in the Pacific' Announces New Marketing Plan

Telling the true story of his uncle, Carl Johnson, an American Marine who spent 30 months in the Pacific during World War II, is author Richard Carl Bright's historical work, "Pain and Purpose in the Pacific: True Reports of War" (published by Trafford Publishing).

In "Pain and Purpose in the Pacific," Bright, who lived for seven years on the island of Saipan in the Pacific Ocean, puts a human face on the tragedies of war, ushering readers into both the destruction and redemption of war. Bright traces his uncle Carl's travels during WWII from his uncle's home in Minnesota to the battle-torn islands of the Pacific, all the way to Japan. Bright, a veteran of Vietnam, creates his prose from personal experience and observation of many locations in the Pacific including the Marianas Islands, Peleliu, The Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He interviewed the veterans of the battles, and the indigenous of the island he lived on.

Not only is the book a story of war, "Pain and Purpose in the Pacific" is ultimately a love story. Carl returns to his hometown to marry Clara Young, the woman awaiting his return from combat. Together they raise a family and pursue the American Dream.

About the Author
Richard Carl Bright was born and raised in Walker, Minn. He is a graduate of Bemidji State University and Columbia State and Hamilton universities. He has degrees in geography, earth science, theology and religious studies. Bright also wrote "The Ark, A Reality?" and "Quest for Discovery." He is a Vietnam veteran. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot Rating and is a retired airline captain. He retired from Continental Airlines in 2004.
