Gabriel is held overnight for questioning about the death of a female socialite in the park after he is found in possession of a broadsword covered with the woman's blood. If that is not enough, word comes out that he had assaulted an intern and two security guards when he escaped from Belleview Psychiatric Ward ten years ago. The war veteran turns out to be mentally unstable right from the outset. In fact, he barely knows who he really is.

A war veteran himself, Rafael Fraguada has succumbed to an offensive North Vietnamese Army attack. Their battalion sustained heavy casualties, killed and wounded. They retreated and boarded ship for Okinawa to man their depleted ranks. Within two months, they were back as Special Landing Force based offshore on a Landing Platform for Helicopters. They deployed on search-and-destroy missions, blocking forces, and augmented troops in various strike or rescue operations in Kan Thien, Chu Lai, Fu Bai, Da Nang, Hue, Khe Sanh Hill 881 and 861, Quang Tri, and Dong Ha, among others.
