Finishing Line Press (FLP) features the first appearance of public reading and book signing events in AWP. Ann Huang's Love Rhythms will host a public signing event at 3:00pm today, February 27, 2014, at FLP Table B14. Huang will also give a public reading at AWP among four other FLP featured poets.

Ann Huang is a recent graduate of the MFA program in poetry for writers at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Huang is a poet whose biographical circumstances both shape her life and her language. Having lived in China, Mexico and the US, Huang carries with her a distinctive worldly sense of self. Her newer manuscript of poems, Whaling Season, is a testament to Huang's lyrical gift. "She needs poetry like water," her teacher at VCFA, Ralph Angel, has remarked. And Angel goes on to describe her manuscript, Whaling Season, as comprised of "poems of her wildly understated, deeply aloof, psychologically complex, surreally personal" self. Huang's tendency toward, and identification with, Surrealism is reflected in her personal account of what it feels like to be alive today.

Richard Jackson introduced her to the MFA graduation reading early this month, "She is a poet who can both think and feel in a wonderfully elliptical poetry, what Robert Bly calls 'leaping poetry.' In that respect, she puts together images that rub against each other like pieces of flint as she says in 'Chasing the Moon'

Everything gets lost
under a lovely moon
or the air outside one's soul
tingles
