Reading other books on nostalgia, author Phillip Hounslow was inspired to bare his heart and tell his life story. Diverse, comprehensive and thought-provoking, "Seeing Without Looking" (published by Xlibris AU) records 72 years of dodging mental hazards. This book leads readers to the path of survival.

As a result of his mother having german measles, Hounslow was born blind and had some female parts. For this reason he was raised as a girl. At the age of 10 he suffered sexual abuse as a boy while at school. This led to the development of post-traumatic stress which remained undiagnosed for many years. Raised as a female, he only got to take control of his own destiny when he obtained a job at 19 working in an engineering factory for a time, then working playing drums and percussion professionally in Sydney for 45 years. Throughout his life, he also battles with a multiple-personality disorder that cut up his 72 years into four segments. Amid the adversities and difficulties, he braved the storms and got rid of the confusions, disturbances and strains that wreaked havoc to his mental state.

This book is not a definitive intellectual work on how to relate to a blind person, but is merely the author's experiences and those of his friends as to how they deal with a restricted but not less fulfilled life. It is Hounslow's hope to inspire readers to turn their situation around and draw positivity from their hardship.

The author believes the worst is behind him now. "I am confident that people will acknowledge that they too have some qualities that I express and have also suffered from the same doubts and disappointments," he says. "Hopefully they will share my sense of humour."

About the Author
The author was born in 1943 and grew up in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia. Born totally blind as a male but with some female parts, he was raised as a girl making life very confusing. He experienced sexual abuse for six years after commencing school as a boy at a late age of 10. This led to the development of post-traumatic stress which remained undiagnosed for many years. At the age of 19, he obtained a job in an engineering workshop and commenced playing drums and percussion in clubs, restaurants and night clubs for 45 years. As a result of these varied life experiences, the author concluded that he was a different personality and that his story should be recorded in a book to inform people about his life experiences.
