New Haven, Conn.

Learning to say no, finding love in unexpected places, loving yourself first and following your dreams are common issues clinical social worker Joan Hoey approaches in her new book, "Purposeful Destiny."

"Purposeful Destiny" is an inspirational self-help book filled with stories about Hoey, her clients and family, and how they overcame obstacles, while being guided by unusual circumstances and synchronistic happenings. She holds nothing back when covering psychology and common lifestyle topics, such as spirituality, fear, destiny and empowerment.

"The decision to write this book transpired when my clients, my family and I began to notice we were being directed toward destinies better for us," said Hoey. "It became clear everyone had a purpose, whether it was to be a good parent or a CEO of a large corporation."

Hoey uses her psychological insights gained over her career to create eight separate stories, conveying how the universe prompted and guided people in the direction that's their destiny. The characters in the stories are willing to take a leap of faith, especially when they are fearful or unnerved, moving them from being frightened to recognizing a new harmonious way.

"'Purposeful Destiny' is an invitation to change the readers' life, to free themselves from obstacles, to break negative patterns, and to discover the love and freedom waiting for all of us," said Hoey. "The one thing I want readers to learn from this book is that there is a power higher than ourselves, who directs and guides us to our highest best destiny."
