INDIANAPOLIS -

Growing up in China during times of both war and peace, as well as in nations around the world, made an indelible impression on author Siao Liu. He shares his remembrances of life growing up, as well as a brief history of China, in his new book, released by Dog Ear Publishing. The world traveler and businessman shares the wisdom he's gleaned by dealing with people all over the world, with different ethnicities, cultures, races and religions.

"Born in Hong Kong to Become a World Citizen: Into an Emerging New World Order" is a perfect blend of history lesson and personal memoir. Liu offers amusing stories of flying kites on apartment rooftops and schoolboy shenanigans as well poignant remembrances of feeling like an outsider. Stories of events that took place during his college days in the United States detail how he has come to think about the world. He writes that his views on the history of China are influenced by events that have led to present-day China, especially Deng Xiao Ping's economic reform since 1978. China is rapidly becoming an economic powerhouse, thanks to modern-day political and cultural revolutions and its place in an increasingly global marketplace.

Whether describing his journey to being a successful businessman, health scares, anecdotes about his ever-growing family or his ideas about how Asian immigrants can succeed, Liu's book provides an intriguing glimpse into one man's experience as a citizen of the world.
Author Siao Liu, born in 1939 in Hong Kong, lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil, although he considers himself a world citizen. His family lived in a wartime capital of China during the Sino Japanese War until 1945 before moving to Beijing and then Taiwan and other cities. Liu, who has traveled in Western Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, South America and Canada, has lived in Philadelphia, New York City and Kalamazoo, Mich., as well as other U.S. cities.
