APPLE VALLEY, Minn.

Del Lins Holmgren takes her readers on a cathartic process of recollection, "Beginning At The End" (published by Xlibris) and then going back through the decades of her life, recounting memories and moments both precious and painful. By coming to terms with her past and letting it go, she frees herself for the next stage of life while simultaneously sharing the invaluable lessons she has learned to her readers and showing them that they are not alone in their own journeys.

Holmgren recounts how she grew up during the Great Depression under the shadow of a controlling father who gained international fame but not the love some of his children. Her story shows how the naïveté and innocence of a young lady is lost as she discovers what really goes on between men and women. She reflects on the influences her father and her husband had on her, how it took her many years to find love and happiness after overcoming economic hardship and the domineering personalities around her.

Even then, treasured times in life are still subject to change and impermanence, as Holmgren narrates how she was widowed, the conflicting feelings of sadness and liberation she experienced, which left her at peace yet anxious about the future. She also narrates the necessities of giving up a beautiful home in Naples, Florida and moving back to Minnesota, symbolizing how she was leaving memories of married life behind by going on with life.

"Never give up. There is always hope. Have faith in God and the power of prayer," Holmgren exhorts her readers, sharing the credo that sustained her through the years. "We have the same problems today as we had then. The only difference is the date stamp."

By telling her life story, Holmgren depicts the adversities men and women face, the vicissitudes of fate that recur throughout generations, timeless and universal. At the same time, she also conveys the unique circumstances that were formative for her, the sheer economic disaster of the Great Depression, the transitions of the 20th century that came before younger generation's time and how, in her own words, life is not always as it seems - be it good or bad.
