When Rupert the raccoon is born, everyone knows he's different. Of all his brothers and sisters, he's the only one without a mask. People call him a disgrace, and since he isn't like all the other raccoons, he leaves home in search of an owl who can make his wish to be like all the others come true. But along the way, Rupert meets other animals who also have unique traits. Together, they learn an important lesson about individual differences, self-respect and acceptance.

"No Mask, No Home!" (published by Archway Publishing) by The Sisters Spurlock is a new children's book that takes young readers on a journey of self-awareness, and teaches the importance of self-acceptance - communicating that everyone is special, regardless of differences. The book also includes a lesson plan for parents or educators to use when discussing the book's themes with children.

"Today children are more aware of their differences than ever before with the ongoing ban on foreign nations, bullying in schools, and the protests over individuality across the nation," say the Sisters Spurlock. "This story makes a strong case for teaching respect and acceptance to those who are feeling different or left out and hopefully will give them some peace that being different is what makes them special."
