The ancient adage "know thyself" has been uttered and repeated, defined and translated many times, but is there a singular, universal understanding of what that truly means? In her new book, 'Knowing Yourself...Or Not,' Marti Eicholz offers her own thorough and contemporary perspective, and examines the benefits of self-awareness and self-knowledge that are developed through self-reflection and an understanding of behavioral traits. Eicholz brings the concept of "know thyself" out of the esoteric haze and delivers an honest and interactive book that provides real-life solutions for making productive changes in behavior and patterns of relating.

Divided into four major sections, 'Knowing Yourself...Or Not' is a view through the looking glass at the inner workings of four specific behavioral traits that shape how people function and relate on a daily basis at home, work, school, and everywhere in between. The book begins with a self-analysis survey-the results of which are referenced throughout-and continues with an examination of how these traits develop, combine, and ultimately impact future behavior, interpersonal communications, leadership styles, stress levels, and personal growth.

In addition to Eicholz's detailed analysis of behavioral traits and patterns, she offers something perhaps even more valuable-exercises, writing tasks, evaluations, and assessments that require effort and work, and taking a good look in the mirror. "You know your face because you see it often reflected in the mirror," says Eicholz. "Now there is a mirror in which you can see YOU in a new way, your strengths, limitations, motivations, and fears."

It would be remiss to say that 'Knowing Yourself...Or Not' is simply a self-help book. It is an in-depth tool for self-examination and introspection that Eicholz believes will lead to a deep sense of self-understanding and acceptance, as well as a solid foundation for further positive personal development. "Self-knowledge is the beginning of wisdom," explains Eicholz. "It demands ceaseless watchfulness, a constantly inquiring mind, learning by observing, by struggling, by being happy and tearful. To know oneself is the very purpose of all education."
