Anita Katherine Dennis was a college student in the 1960s hoping to learn about the various peoples of the world. Unbeknownst to her, she would soon be living out her interest as she falls in love with and eventually marries her anthropology professor - a hereditary African chief.

Dennis tells the exciting story of her life as she plays the role of "chief's wife" in her new autobiography, "Beyond Myself: The Farm Girl and the African Chief" (published by WestBow Press), which follows her journey from an Ohio farm to a remote tribal village in Liberia, West Africa.

In this narrative, her husband takes her to visit his Mende and Gbandi people, reconnecting with them after his 23-year absence. After subsequent visits to Liberia, she lives in his village for a year as a chief's wife and lay missionary - facing numerous challenges there.

"Beyond Myself" follows Dennis' transformation to world citizen with many missteps along the way as she struggles to navigate an interracial, cross-cultural relationship while Liberia is torn asunder by a military coup and years of violent civil war.
