Dr. Susan Love-surgeon, researcher, advocate, author, and cancer survivor-will share insights learned during her recent battle with leukemia with Dr. Deborah Axelrod, Kanas Family Foundation Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology and Medical Director for Community Outreach & Education for the NYU Langone's Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center, during a special discussion, book signing and reception, "The Only Difference Between a Researcher and a Patient is a Diagnosis!" on Thursday, May 1 at 6:00pm at NYU School of Medicine.

Dr. Love is a clinical professor of surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the medical director of the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, whose efforts are focused on preventive breast cancer research. She formerly served on the National Cancer Advisory Board and maintains a board position at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Dr. Love recently completed successful treatment of a form of leukemia called AML.

This special event is the Spring Colloquium presented by the Master Scholars Program in Humanistic Medicine (MSPHM) and the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center. The mission of the MSPHM is to promote humanistic values in medical education. Its programmatic activities seek to cultivate empathy, respect, justice, and compassion in order heighten insight into the lived experiences of both patients and the health professionals who care for them.
