An unusual friendship develops between a young boy and a little frog in the new children's story by author Melanie W. McComb, "Hyla" (published by Trafford Publishing).

McComb's story follows Hyla as he emerges from his underground hibernation to experience the springtime weather and embark on new adventures in his environment.

One day, a boy rides his tricycle past Hyla's hiding place and the two become instant friends. Together, they explore the world around the boy's cottage and learn many new things.

McComb hopes her story will develop in young readers a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world.

"My story is not only about friendship, but also a nature story based on true events," McComb says. "In today's society we are conscious of the world around us and we try to protect our natural world, but many of us go through daily life with blinders on. We need to look carefully at our world and see all the many incredible things around us."
