To help kick off Colorado Literacy Week, participating Colorado McDonald's restaurants will be giving away a free breakfast and free book to all four year olds the morning of May 19th. Monday, May 19th marks the first day of Colorado Literacy Week and with McDonald's partnership of One Book 4 Colorado, Lt. Governor Joe Garcia will be visiting McDonald's restaurants across the state to participate in readings of this year's winning book, Grumpy Bird.

In an effort to help showcase the importance of a good breakfast and lifelong love of reading to preschoolers, McDonald's is providing a free Egg Sandwich (like Egg McMuffin) OR hotcakes and free juice OR milk. Students who choose to participate must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who will also receive a free small beverage of their choice.

"McDonald's local owner/operators are excited to again partner with One Book 4 Colorado to help bring awareness to the importance of literacy," said Juan Samour, Denver area McDonald's owner/operator. "As community members and parents, we know the importance of starting the day with a wholesome breakfast and supporting education and literacy is a key priority for McDonald's local owner/operators in Colorado."

McDonald's has several programs in Colorado similar to the One Book 4 Colorado preschool literacy program that give back to the community, including ongoing support of Ronald McDonald House Scholarships and partnerships/support of programs such as 5th Gear Kids program in Aurora & Cherry Creek Schools, McDonald's Teachers Challenge with the Colorado PTA, Stories on Stage: Cuentame un Cuentito, La Raza Educational Program, Vail Soul Music Festival's Education Program and the One Book, One Denver Program.
