JOHANNESBURG

For anyone who has ever felt emotionally overwhelmed, author Mavis Mazhura presents her new guide to managing emotions, "Navigating the Rapids and the Waves of Life: 10 Lessons for Managing Emotions for Success" (published by Balboa Press).

Mazhura believes managing emotions is the key to living a successful life. She uses instances from her own life to show readers how understanding their emotions can make a great impact on how they view their lives. The title of the book comes from her experiences rafting down the Nile River.

With "Navigating the Rapids and the Waves of Life," readers will learn the tools and options available for gaining emotional intelligence. The book details how readers can stay present and resist giving power to outside influences as well as how to find others who will be supportive of those readers' goals and desires.

Throughout her book, Mazhura includes personal anecdotes and lessons from other people she has met that illustrate these techniques in practice. She hopes to fill readers' toolboxes with the right gear that will help them understand and manage their emotions, no matter the situation.

"We are living in times of rapid change, complexity and social decay," Mazhura writes. "Survival emotions are running the show and yet if we manage our emotions effectively we can create fulfilling lives from inside ourselves without yielding to a lot of the external pressure."
