According to World Bank, Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and one of the poorest in the world. With a history of on-going development, one may ask, what led to this and what has been the affect on individuals living there?

Did You Know? by Marjorie Charlot, is a comprehensive guide that explores the rich culture and history of Haiti and its residents. The novel features interesting topics on those of African descent, arts and culture, civil rights, influential families, inventors, and their role in world history.

"There is much to learn about Haiti's history, challenges and achievements," Charlot said. "The book is an introduction for those who want to get a better understanding of the country."

Charlot, who is of Haitian descent, received her Master's Degree in library and information science and urban studies at Long Island University. In 2014, she founded the website http://www.sankofaarchives.com to help individuals of African descent discover positive images of their ancestors and understand their contributions. That said, her passion for historical research translates to the fascinating and informative facts about Haiti in Did You Know?
