TOWNSVILLE, Australia

"Older generations will revisit their childhood and younger generations will be given a glimpse of a childhood from a different era," says author Marjorie Abell. Using her book, "Midge" (published by Xlibris AU), as a portal to take back both adults and youths to 1950s, Abell shows readers why life is so much fun in the Queensland bush.

Midge is an autobiographic account of the life of Abell, chronicling her birth and early childhood, to her schooldays and the carefree adventures of youth she partook with her siblings and friends. She remembers the loving environment cultivated by her parents, and what they went through to ensure that their family was well provided for.

"It describes family interactions and daily activities," says Abell about her story, "There is little money involved so many of the stories and games played are using readily available resources rather than toys."

Readers will follow Abell as she grows up and faces the responsibilities brought by maturity and the changes that occur around her and her family. Ultimately, hers is a touching coming-of-age story, a pristine photograph of the author's life experiences.

About the Author
Marjorie Abell grew up in the Queensland bush, one of five children. Her father was a teacher and taught all his own children. From her earliest years, Abell loved telling stories, writing and drawing. She started work as a teacher, but regularly resigned to do other work. Her jobs included working on cattle stations, being a ranger and operating a tour boat. Most of her teaching has been on remote aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory. She has a lot of hobbies but particularly loves exploring out of the way places in her four wheel drive and camping out in the bush.
