"I Can't Hear What You're Saying... Poetry, Shorts, and Shenanigans" (published by iUniverse) is a new collection of poetry and prose that offers an introspective look at life.

The book promises to take the reader on a journey of enlightenment and self-discovery. MJR tackles weighty issues such as the circle of life, being jobless, back-stabbing friends, growing old and death using humorous as well as stimulating prose.

An excerpt from the book:

"Who am I? Am I my parents? One gone long ago; the other, gone, though still waiting. Am I my wife, my husband, my boyfriend, my girlfriend, my children, the hostess with the mostest, the world's best dad? Are they, you? Why have you given control of your life away?-your identity?-your soul...?"

The above lines talk about losing one's identity in the rat race of life. By using provocative analogies and rousing rhetoric, MJR seeks to make the reader stop and listen as life whistles by. As MJR himself puts it, "Please enjoy the collection with an open mind and in the spirit in which it was written: often playful, occasionally disconcerting, at times maddening, and with any luck-thought provoking."

In "I Can't Hear What You're Saying...", MJR draws on his experiences to give a very insightful and honest appraisal of the vagaries of life that will evoke emotions and strike a chord with the reader.
