In "Seasons in the South: The lives involved in the death of General Van Dorn" (published by AuthorHouse), author Linda Gupton's new historic work, readers are taken back into the days of the Civil War and invited to witness the tragic tale of General Van Dorn.

Jessie McKissack Peters is a stunning, young southern belle living in Tennessee and married to Dr. George Peters -her cousin by blood. When Nashville is attacked by the advancing Northern troops, George escapes and runs to his plantation in Arkansas. His wife, however, finds herself alone in the broken city. As time passes, Jessie begins to join General Van Dorn on carriage rides and parties. When George returns and hears of this, he is enraged and murders Van Dorn. But, shortly after, Jessie gives birth to a child.

After readers are finished with the tale of General Van Dorn, "Seasons in the South" shifts gears and becomes a mystery book. Gupton begins shedding light on the families and individuals affected by the general's death. She then looks into how certain parts of the story leave suspicion towards why or how the general was killed and to the Peters' linage. Was George a spy? Who was the father of the baby Jessie bore? These questions and more will be looked and discussed in "Seasons in the South".

An excerpt from the book:

"A servant witnessed Dr. Peters telling Jessie that he had just shot General Van Dorn. 'Miss Jessie just stood there with her hands on her hips and said, 'Now ain't that the devil, a sweetheart killed and a husband runs away-all in the same day!'"

It is the author's hope that after reading her book, readers will be able to see what actually happened, how the rumors started and the why certain individuals acted the way they did. "Books have been written about General Van Dorn and military strategy but not about the lives involved in his death or what happened to their families."
