Author Larysa Plawan Levycky wanted the world to know how much German aristocrats have contributed to agriculture and cultural development of Eastern Ukraine and how during Josef Stalin's regime, German aristocrats were persecuted. It prompted her in writing the historical fiction titled "Destiny" (published by Trafford Publishing).

When the third generation of the Von Shtattens was born at the height of the Communist Revolution, the family loses nearly all their wealth, forcing a series of events that lead the beautiful 19-year-old Lydia Von Shtatten to change her name to avoid Communist attention and eventually marry and have children with concert pianist, Leonid Leontev. But as Hitler moves through the Ukraine, Leonid is inducted into the Red Army and goes missing in action. Lydia must rely on help from her cousin to survive as the Gestapo terrorizes the innocent and changes her future once again. As Lydia's destiny leads her across Europe and eventually to Canada, she must struggle to endure all her challenges amid the chaos of a brutal war.

"This novel will show readers how people learned to cope with dignity and perseverance during World War II," Levycky says. "It will also give them an opportunity to get acquainted with the many lands, people and customs of that period in history."

"Destiny" is a compelling tale of perseverance, love and tragedy for one woman born of privilege but was forced to rely on her inner-strength to survive World War II Germany and continue her family's legacy.
