Larry Austin Releases ....AND AWAY WE WENT!
He rescued 2,000 clients from Iran when a war broke out in 1979, arrived in Bermuda with 200 clients and no hotel rooms to speak of, and had a cat throw up on his client's food tray on a flight to Florida. It's all in a day's work of a travel agent.
Larry Austin, formerly chairman and CEO of Austin Travel, fell in love with travel as a college student in 1951 when he won a trip to London to receive a prize for his student work in advertising. After graduating from Baruch College in New York City, he fell into the travel agency business as a fluke after working in advertising for four years.
In Austin's new book, "...And away we went!" he reveals the intriguing world of the travel industry and recalls some of his most interesting stories.
"Over the 60 years I have been in business, many unusual things - some funny - have occurred and I wanted to share them," Austin said. "Every story in my book is based on actual events that took place."
According to USA Today, there is a 10 percent projected increase in employment of travel agents from 2010 to 2020. Austin remains passionate about the travel industry and hopes "...And away we went!" will entertain and encourage readers to travel the world and experience cultures outside of their comfort zone.
