Getting lost in the rainforest has never been so exciting - or educational.

Two boys accompanying their father on a trip to South America quickly find themselves in survival mode when their plane crashes and are captured and held hostage by a drug cartel in the middle of the rainforest in "Lost in the Amazon" by Louane K. Beyer.

Both informative and inspirational, the story follows the two boys who must use their quick wits to overcome dangerous obstacles.

"From the viewpoints of an older native South American pilot and the two young heroes, the book will take readers to an exotic place they may never see in real life," Beyer said.

Although action-filled, "Lost in the Amazon" teaches about the ecosystem and the history of the rainforest, while also providing children with role models their own age who possess great intuition, bravery and critical thinking skills.

"Reading is a means to see the world through other views and perspectives," said Beyer.
