Born and raised on the island of Maui, Kary Hisashima had always wanted to be a writer. He went to college hoping to become a journalist, but he never reached that goal. He became a farmer in his family business, married and had three wonderful daughters. Suddenly, he got really busy even as his family business came to an end. He ended up working for someone else and eventually decided to write a book.
