Kent Bell Releases Book, LOOK MA, NO HANDS, NO LEGS EITHER

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.

Kent Bell wasn't expected to live more than 24 hours after he was born. He came into the world without arms or legs and now, 49 years later, he has accomplished more in life than the average person.

In his new book, "Look Ma, No Hands, No Legs Either," he opens up about his childhood and how he became the man he is today by not letting his disability define him. Bell said that even without arms and legs, he trys to stay active and not "dwell in pity parties."

"My kidneys gave out several years ago, and I wasn't supposed to live very long," Bell said. "However, between being in and out of the hospital for the past four years and trying to keep up with my activities, I am wearing down. Now my heart is giving me trouble. So, I am on a time table to get more things accomplished. Getting this book completed is on my bucket list."

Bell, an avid sports enthusiast, was the first disabled person to work the scoreboard during the 2004 Olympic men's basketball games. "I started keeping score in high school for the basketball games, and I haven't stopped for more than 30 years," Bell said. "It's something I know I can do and I love it! I also started and coached a wheelchair basketball team in Jacksonville."

Through the cathartic experience of writing "Look Ma, No Hands, No Legs Either," Bell hopes he can be a positive light for others. "Maybe by sharing my story, I can help someone get through life, get through the day and not give up," Bell said. "I want people to know life is worth living and with God, all things are possible."

About the Author

Kent Bell, born on February 14, 1965, in Fort Belvoir, Va., without arms or legs, was a founder, fundraiser and coach of the wheelchair basketball team in Jacksonville, Fla., in 2004. He has served on a number of committees and task forces and has won numerous awards, including an Emmy for best news story of the year. Bell lives in Jacksonville, Fla., and this is his first published book.
