DOWNINGTON, Pa.

Stories of a vintage car, a Christmas miracle, an incredible plane and a love story take center stage in a new book released by Dog Ear Publishing. In the title story, 42-year-old Mike Richards, an average single man with an average job, wins a rare frost blue 1959 Corvette after entering a national contest. A drive he takes in the car on a beautiful spring day leads to an unusual encounter that will change his life.

"The Road Least Traveled and Other Collected Works" features eight short stories, drawing on the author's knowledge of the highways and byways of Pennsylvania, England and Wales. In "An Occurrence at the Goodwood Revival," a young man attends a vintage car race and miraculously wakes up after what should have been a fatal accident. "The Hills of Wales" and "The Allanowr" feature stories of love so strong that they transcend traditional barriers.

Unusual events take place when a World War II bomber crew reunites with their restored Flying Fortress in "Reunion with the Heavenly Body," and the airplane proves just how special she was. "Once Upon a Christmastime" tells the story of a lonely clerk who goes looking for special Christmas gift for his only friend. He steps into a cottage gift shop straight out of a Disney movie and finds his own special gift. Told from the perspective of a romantic, each charming story puts its own spin on an unusual circumstance and the power of love to change lives.

Author Ken Severn has raced a 1979 Fiat X1/9 in the Show Room Stock class. Severn, who lives in Downington, Pa., has traveled extensively through England and Wales.
