NEW YORK

Musings of great thinkers conjoin with a paradigm of metaphysical considerations in author Juan Valdez's new philosophical narrative, "The Snow Cone Diaries: A Philosopher's Guide to the Information Age" (published by AuthorHouse).

Valdez's new book acts as a treatise on the understanding of human existence as it blends the teachings and opinions of some of the most prominent scholars from antiquity with a fictional story about protagonist Charlie, an inquisitive young man whose current conundrum involves a philosophical exploration of love, human existence and the cosmic origins of the universe, both as a discipline of study and as a phenomenon in and of itself.

"The book should be required reading for those who are curious about basic philosophical questions like who we are, why we are here, and, perhaps more importantly, how we arrived at our current understanding of our Creator and the universe," Valdez says. "It's a survey of sorts on how we, as advanced and civilized people, have attempted to answer these questions since the dawn of civilization and how the systems of belief that were designed to answer those questions have evolved into modern science, approaching ancient philosophy and ancient theology not as outdated metaphysical frameworks, but as basic underlying building blocks for both modern physics and religion."

Valdez says the intent of "Snow Cone Diaries" is "to explore the foundations and evolution of knowledge and the boundaries between reason and faith," in order to come to a better understanding of how the modern branches of science and theology interrelate and form bonds with socio-political and historical contexts over time. He feels these contexts are sometimes lost in the current sociological and religious dialogue between men of faith and men of reason.
