"The Mountains" is about a boy on the verge of manhood. Micah Holloway lives in an ancient village that is surrounded by a mountain range. No one from the community has ever traveled outside the village and the mystery of what lies beyond the mountains is a source of curiosity and fear. Like every community, the village offers Micah both triumph and tragedy. But he cannot shake the feeling that there is something beyond the mountains, calling his name.

After an encounter with the divine, Micah decides to chance the journey over the mountains. Once on the other side, he discovers that the world is a complicated mix of good and evil. A new race of creature, the Water Walkers, challenges the boundaries of his mind and soul. Micah finds himself enticed by love and enraptured by lust as he is launched into the heart of a great war. The strange island of Hell, the source of all evil, looms in front of him and seems to be drawing him and his companions close. In the midst of all of this, Micah searches for his place in the world, tries to make sense out of the strange realities around him, and discovers exactly what it means to call a place home.

"I've been a writer my entire life. Traveling the world gave me the courage and insight to discover a story worth telling. 'The Mountains' is a mirror into the complex beauty and tragedy within the world." - Joey Willis
