According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), children read to frequently show higher proficiency in writing, reading and math skills. These benefits from early reading motivated Joe Carr to read to his children and grandchildren regularly.

Originally created as a bedtime story for his six grandchildren, Carr wrote "The Adventures of Fred the Fly," an enlightening children's story that highlights a young fly and his journey making new friends. Throughout the story, Carr highlights the importance of helping those in need and encouraging children to use their imaginations.

With the use of vibrant colored images and a story that takes place outdoors, Carr hopes to encourage children to leave their electronics aside and get outside.

"I hope this can be a keepsake for my family," Carr said. "Other families can use this book at home and have confidence knowing that their little one is using their imagination and sowing the seed of learning through the written word."
