Cancer patients and nutrition professionals have been enthusiastic in their praise of The Essential Cancer Treatment Nutrition Guide and Cookbook, which is bringing comfort to many. Designed with the nutritional needs of the cancer patient in mind, this easy to read paperback is becoming the recommended resource of cancer nutrition professionals.

In an effort to put more books into the hands of patients, the author has coordinated a nationwide movement that allows donors to commit a 'random act of kindness' by purchasing a book, having it sent to a participating registered dietitian in a cancer treatment program. As a thank you, friends and supporters of the author are in turn donating their skills in the form of downloadable bonus gifts for purchasers of the book - whether the book is bought for themselves or someone else.

"This has been organized to be a win-win-win" says LaMantia. Firstly, patients are going to receive a resource that will address their nutrition needs during treatment and into survivorship. Secondly, consumers, with little effort on their part, can feel good that they are doing something for a person with cancer that will have a big impact. Thirdly, as a thank-you for their kind act, donors are able to choose from an array of bonus gifts offered by friends and supporters.

Dietitian's in cancer centres responded quickly and enthusiastically to the call to action and are anxious to be the ones to deliver this 'random act of kindness'. This program is a win for them too as they get to be the ones that put this gift directly into the hands of their patients. These are just a few of their enthusiastic replies about the program;

"I work with a lot of lower income patients that would otherwise not be able to afford to purchase books. Being able to hand them out would do wonders!!"

Michele Krilivsky, RD
Smilow Cancer Hospital
New Haven, CT

"Thank you for your kind offer. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to provide your book to our cancer patients. What a great thing you are doing!"

Merril Adelman RD
Norwalk Hospital
Norwalk, CT

"Thanks so much for giving oncology dietitians this opportunity, to provide much needed nutrition materials to our patients. I work at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, where we have a large cancer center, containing chemo and radiation clinics, BMT clinics, Breast Clinics, etc. We have adult and pediatric oncology patients. Please send me as many copies as you can."

Randa Bakht, RD
The Methodist Hospital
Houston, TX
