His revolt against rampant materialistic ideology of Western civilization inspired author and poet James Francis Segars to unleash his passion into writing. In "Visions of Asylum" (published by Xlibris), he reveals a collection of poems that outlines his vision for a more satisfying road to a better world.

Segars believes that there is a decline in civilization today, what with all the widespread violence, wars and terrorism. It is no wonder that he sees the bleakness of the future. However, this is not a reason for him to lose hope. "Visions of Asylum" is a poetic indictment of the dominant materialistic ideology of Western civilization, combining elements of history, science, philosophy and mythology in a series of epic poem's critiquing this soul less society. It is the author's visions of the world as it is and as it should be.

An excerpt from the poem, 'Residuum:'
Cut down by a dream
Or so it seems, as deep as truth,
Long waves all out calling;
Surely we shall charge thee with
A wandering word,
As deeds come due.

Evocative and often insightful, "Visions of Asylum" opens the readers' eyes and minds to possibilities of a brighter tomorrow. It provokes their thoughts and allows them to consider changes for the better.
