While he was in a federal prison, author J.T. James wonders how, in spite of his efforts to remove himself from the cycle of abject poverty throughout his childhood to a level in the corporate world that is achieved by only a few, he still ended up with a tragic circumstance and returned to a life of near destitution. To make sense of it all, he had to reflect on the life he had led. This, in turn, prompted him to write his story in "Strong at the Broken Places" (published by Xlibris).

Raised under a modern day Dickinsonian condition, James takes readers on a tour of his life from living on the streets to his continued misery and pain of combat in Vietnam. These experiences, followed by his service as a police officer, led to his multiple failed marriages. A determination to succeed by any means necessary put him on a fast track to the top of the corporate world. But the constant remembrance of all things that he wanted to forget, led him down the path to self-destruction.

"This story could easily be about anyone's life, but this one happens to be about mine," James says. "It could just as easily be about yours. In fact, I'm sure that you will find many references or situations in my story that you may have found yourself in from time to time. Hopefully, you made better decisions than I when faced with those situations."

By sharing his life story, James would like readers to realize that they too could, and most likely have made bad choices in life that they regret. He tells them that they need to learn from the mistakes that they have made and in order for them to survive life's challenges, they must be "Strong at the Broken Places."
