In "Parcae's Wish" (published by iUniverse), J. Nicholas' new novel, readers fall into an espionage thriller set in Paris and Manhattan shortly before the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Christof Douglas, president of an entertainment company, watches his simple life change before his eyes. Drawn into an illegal, international weapons and biochemical covert operation, he must do whatever he can to stay alive. Along the way, he meets a mysterious woman he names Parcae, after the Roman Goddesses of Fate, who helps him take a brave journey through his past, present and future as he questions his true destiny.

"This tale is one about betrayal - a failed marriage, the murder of his young daughter, ruthless business divestitures, mergers and buyouts, government lies and cover-ups and mistaken military service in Viet Nam," says Nicholas. "But mostly, the book is about revenge and destiny."

An excerpt from "Parcae's Wish":

"I DIED YESTERDAY. IT didn't make the evening news or cause any great ripples in the world. There weren't even any people there when it happened. Oh, there was one. But that's for later. I hadn't planned it that way. Not that I'd thought there would be some cortege leading up to the ceremony, where speaker after speaker recalled how I helped this country get through one of its most trying times. And even though that was true, I didn't expect anyone to extol my part in that episode. How could they, when most didn't know the truth of what had happened? And, if they did, they couldn't say. So what would have been said would have been a lie, just like my life."
