Intermundia Press announced early praise for The Good Fundamentalist, a new novel by author, minister and theologian Rev. Dr. John Killinger that grapples with the timely topic of same sex marriage and the church - even as the author reveals the book has cost him his romance and likely marriage.

"She's a beautiful lady, and we related incredibly well in almost every way. But, unfortunately, not on our views of the scriptures," said Killinger of the woman he intended to marry, a conservative church member who does not support same sex marriage and ended their relationship as the book was published.

At the same time, Intermundia Press announced online reviews for The Good Fundamentalist are overwhelmingly positive and highlighted the following reader comments:

"Not only is The Good Fundamentalist an enjoyable read, it also provides us a channel toward personal growth. Killinger does it again!"
~ Marilyn Oden, as posted on Amazon.com

"The truth is, we don't live in a black and white world - never really have. That's why The Good Fundamentalist is such an important book for Christians to read today.
~ Samuel J. Bayne, as posted on Amazon.com

Killinger is the author of the recently released novel The Good Fundamentalist, (Intermundia; $19.95; ISBN 978-1-887730-39-6), a heart wrenching fictional account based on a true story that sheds new light on the controversy over homosexuality and gay marriage in the church. The Good Fundamentalist is set in small town Kentucky and explores the crisis of faith and flock surrounding a fundamentalist Baptist minister as he faces the reality of homosexuality and same sex marriage in his own family. Intermundia released the novel as the United Methodist Church considers a potential division of the denomination over the issue of same sex marriage.
