According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, nearly 22 million Americans suffer from substance abuse. Its staggering reach is proof that addiction is an unprejudiced disease capable of touching anyone, even those in a position of power and privilege.

Pastor Basha Jordan Jr. spent much of his life leaning on his religious convictions, but it could not stop him from succumbing to addiction. He narrates his battle between faith and fixation in "The Pipe and the Pulpit."

Despite his high education and deep religious background, Dr. Jordan slipped into drug and alcohol addiction while serving as an inner-city minister. With frank detail, Dr. Jordan discusses how his disease nearly destroyed his career as a pastor, social standing, and family.

Jordan also looks to use education as a tool to combat substance abuse in "The Pipe and the Pulpit." He leveraging his personal experiences with on drugs and alcohol, he sheds light on the widespread effects of addiction.

"There are many stereotypes associated with an addict," Jordan said. "But addiction doesn't care who you are, what your educational background is, where you come from or where you are going. Everyone is susceptible to addiction and everyone is equally inclined to recover."

"The Pipe and the Pulpit" is Jordan's personal testament, proving that faith is stronger than any addiction. For more information on the author and his book, please visit http://www.HopeAliveMinistry.org.
