Authors J. Rivers Hodge and Brenda Hodge's new book, "The Legend of Joe Edge: Heroic Exploits of a Florida Pioneer" (published by iUniverse), brings closure to adventures in their debut novel, "The Legend of Anne Southern."

Escaping the wrath of General Sherman's troops, Joe Edge and his family are forced to migrate from Georgia and live in the Florida wilderness.

The Wild West was never so wild as post-Civil War Florida. The state is a haven for deserters from both the Union and the Confederate armies. Murderers, thieves, and child abusers hide in the palmetto scrubs and pine forests. They are no match for Joe.

Joe's famous exploits include saving his father's life, hunting down two killer beasts, taking revenge on a man who killed a loved one, and dispensing frontier justice to a couple of paid assassins and a band of coldblooded murderers.

Love blooms as Joe comes of age. He must choose between the precocious faraway medical student, Sparky Topp, or the local temptress schoolteacher, Grisette Able.

With his trusty skinning knife and murder on his mind, Major Ruse Blackburn traps Anne Southern at the Edge home. In the end, the reader must decide who, or what, saves Anne from being skinned alive: Joe Edge, Albert the Alligator, or a whispered two-word prayer.
