COLUMBUS, OH - Highlights for Children, the leading family media brand and publisher of the best-read children's magazines in North America, today announced the launch of a Spanish/English version of its popular High Five magazine for young children. Filled with character- and skill-building fun, High Five Bilingüe will be a resource to the rapidly growing population of young families in the U.S. who are learning both Spanish and English.

Published monthly, each issue of High Five Bilingüe will feature a range of read-along stories and poems, crafts, games and puzzles in Spanish and English, to help children ages 2 to 6 become confident speakers, readers and writers in both languages. All of the magazine features are designed for children to enjoy together with a teacher, parent, grandparent or older sibling.

"In 2012, one in four babies born in the U.S. was Hispanic," said Kathleen Hayes, editor of Highlights' early childhood magazines. "Since we launched High Five in 2007, teachers, child care workers and parents have repeatedly asked: 'Do you have this content in Spanish?' With the introduction of High Five Bilingüe, we are thrilled to bring our popular content to a new and growing population of children."

According to Hayes, High Five Bilingüe content is based on sound educational theories and practices and is designed to meet the needs of teachers and children in bilingual and dual-language public school and early childhood classrooms and in bilingual homes. The monthly online parent guide will enhance parents' experiences sharing the magazine with their child, and the monthly teacher's guide, with links to early childhood standards, offers suggestions on ways to share and extend the learning in the classroom. Highlights also provides a free monthly, online audio edition, read by native Spanish and English speakers. Children can listen and learn as they follow along in the magazine.

"Children who learn to read and speak more than one language at a young age reap a lifetime of benefits. Yet, despite a surge in the number of bilingual and dual-language preschools nationwide, there are relatively few resources available to support bilingual literacy and school readiness in early childhood. High Five Bilingüe will be a welcome addition," said Karen Nemeth, author of Many Languages, One Classroom: Teaching Dual- and English-Language Learners.

A 12-month subscription to High Five Bilingüe is available for $34.44 on www.highlights.com/bilingue. Discounted prices are available for schools and institutions that order subscriptions in bulk.

Devoted to "Fun with a Purpose," family media brand Highlights for Children, Inc. (http://www.highlights.com) has helped children become their best selves for generations.
