RAYFOUN, Lebanon -

How does a young, impressionable boy turn into a man confident in his own views?

Henri Sfeir explores this timeless question in his new novel, "Ashnar." Set in the time of ancient philosophers Socrates and Plato, the novel follows Ashnar, a young prince on the precipice of adulthood as he grapples with the startling realization that he doesn't want to inherit his father's kingdom.

Instead, Ashnar sets off on a journey to formulate his own views on politics and governing. His quest to discover the utmost truth in life takes him to far off places where he discovers love, truth and ultimate understanding of his life purpose.

"Ashnar's journey parallels that of any person who continuously seeks the truth," Sfeir said. "Readers will see themselves in Ashnar's tale of enlightenment, suspense and history that uncovers answers he never expected."

In addition to his life experiences, Sfeir brings significant political and business experience to the book. As a prominent elected official who was thwarted by powerful, repressive authorities, Sfeir fostered a long career as an independent and outspoken voice in the Lebanese society. He brings this tendency to seek your own way, and search for truth amongst the confusion, to Ashnar's tale.

"Ashnar is a beacon of hope for readers searching for truth," Sfeir said. "Like him, I have always endeavored to bring an independent voice and perspective into my life."
