RICHMOND, Va.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, nearly 15 million adults suffer from some form of depression. Author Heather Smith believes that many of these wounded souls can lean on Christ to discover innate happiness.

In the new book, "Extravagant Love: Stories of Hope and Inspiration During Difficult Times" (published by WestBow Press), Smith provides readers with motivational letters to inspire them when going through difficult times. Each chapter is written as a personalized letter and begins with an inspirational Bible verse that matches that chapter's theme.

The message of Smith's book is that God's love and compassion heals all. She tells readers that God cares deeply for them and offers personal stories from her own life to demonstrate God's influence in her life.

Smith hopes readers will understand that God loves all of His children and wants to walk with them in their suffering.

"It is my deepest prayer that whoever reads this book will grasp the fact that He loves each of us," Smith said. "He wants to be with His children in the good times and in the hard times."
