Hannah Louise Cartwright Releases Healing Sibling Sexual Trauma: A Very Personal Story

Los Angeles, CA

"I was riveted and deeply moved by Hannah's story and quite impressed with her transparency and honest storytelling of her own history of sexual abuse by her older brother and the impact it had on her throughout various stages of her life. Because she is a therapist she also guides the reader step by step through a journey of healing, providing a path and hope for other survivors. As a therapist myself I am pleased to have such a great resource to refer clients to. Because this issue is so entrenched with shame it is rare to find people self-disclosing their own personal stories and how they found healing. This book is a true gem, offering a healing path and deep encouragement to others struggling." -Belle Hazlehurst, Licensed Family Therapist.

"Cartwright is a powerful writer who offers a wonderful picture of the family dynamics that contributed to and allowed this abuse to happen. I have worked with clients who have experienced sibling sexual trauma and when they have asked me for reading materials, I have had to tell them that I cannot find much. Now, this book is available as a resource. Sadly it is needed, happily it is available." - Paula McGuire, Licensed Family Therapist

Psychotherapist and writer Hannah Louise Cartwright will release Healing Sibling Sexual Trauma: A Very Personal Story on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Cartwright's book tells the personal story of recovering from sexual abuse at the hands of a sibling. By sharing her story, Cartwright aims to help victims understand the impact sibling abuse has on survivors, provide tools to help them begin their healing journey and emphasize that survivors can leave the past behind and build happy lives ahead. Cartwright's clinical knowledge, empathy and direct but caring writing style help readers move through these difficult issues. The book is available at http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Sibling-Sexual-Trauma-Personal-ebook/dp/B00JRNDFK8.

"Sibling sexual abuse victims need to understand that they are not alone. I initially had no desire to write about my experience, but I was unable to find a first-person account of recovery from this abuse to recommend to my clients," says Cartwright. "I thought, by now, there would surely be such a book. Sibling abuse may be the most common form of familial sexual abuse, but I believe it's the least talked about. When I began my own recovery over thirty years ago a book such as this would have been very helpful for me."

Hannah Cartwright is a licensed psychotherapist and registered nurse with over 30 years of experience in the healing professions. She has worked in psychiatric hospitals, substance abuse clinics, child protective services and has had a private practice for over twenty years. She works with adolescents, families, couples and individuals.
