'Graham Kennedy' Offers Glimpse of the King of Australian TV's Life

There have been many books, essays and documentaries about Graham Kennedy, the man known in Australia as the "King of Television", but author Henry Gay's new book explores the King's life on a far more personal level, with the perspective of a man who has been his loyal friend for many decades. "Graham Kennedy and Others Revealed" is an account of the King from someone who knew him for over 50 years.

Gay's work is an attempt to show readers another side of the King, beyond what has already been covered by fan magazines, newspapers and tabloids, which only showed a portion of Graham Kennedy as a person, and a fragment of the life he lived. The anecdotes and revelations within the pages of Gay's book are written in a way that could only have come from a true friend reminiscing about bygone times, a remembrance of a past so fleeting and so precious. Also included are a few of the exclusive and personal letters Kennedy wrote to the author during their decades-long friendship, which began in 1951. Gay also adds a few odd things about the King and, like so many other people, enjoys a little gossip about other people in the entertainment business, whose lives have brightened others, placing it within the context of the times; sharing his history of working in radio, back in the days when it was called "wireless."

About the Author
Now in his 82nd year, Henry Gay began working in radio in the year 1949 and has had a long career in all forms of media, pioneering innovations, producing shows and meeting a great many personalities through the years he was active. He admits his one claim to fame is that he was the first person in the world to programme David Bowie's first record (Rubber Band), but has never met him to apologise.

Currently, he and his wife live a quiet life in the Torbay Retirement Village, Hervey Bay, Queensland, though once every three months he enjoys meeting with the members of the Sunshine Coast Chapter of the RATS (RATS being the acronym for Radio and Television Society).
