Author Frederic Mabbatt, who once served in Jordan, the Sudan, Brazil, Tanzania, Indonesia and the Netherlands, now lives with his wife, Jean, in Sun Valley, where he lectures and writes about foreign policy issues. Mabbatt served in the Marine Corps and worked for the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau and the San Diego Zoo before joining the Foreign Service in 1963. He studied at the University of Alaska and is a graduate of the University of San Diego and studied international relations at San Diego State University.
