In her new book "Comfort Ye My People: The Church's Mandate toward Israel and the Jewish People" (published by WestBow Press) Dr. Martha J. Smith documents the increase of anti-Semitic attacks in Europe. Also examined are the Jewish roots of Christianity and the Church's schism from these roots. Smith traces the history of Christian persecution of the Jewish people from the time of the Church's assimilation into the Roman Empire as the state religion. Also examined are Martin Luther's invectives against the Jewish people, which paved the way for Hitler's "Aryanized" Lutheran Church. Under the leadership of Bishop Ludwig Mueller, an ardent follower of Hitler, the Lutheran Evangelical Church not only condoned the abuse and genocide of Germany's Jews but was in complicity.

"Comfort Ye My People" examines the silence of the majority of the Church during the Holocaust in light of the efforts of the Resistance workers in World War II, many of whom gave their lives to save Jewish people. The book presents the roots and implications of the heresy of replacement theology in relationship to Christian persecution of Jews over the centuries. It issues a mandate to Christians who serve the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the Jewish Messiah, Jesus, to speak out against injustices and the current threats facing the Jewish people and Israel.

"There is much focus today on Israel. . . Some of this attention is positive while other aspects are threatening to the Jewish state and the Diaspora. This includes threats such as: neo-Nazis, white supremacists, Islamic radicals and Jihadists, leftist media presenting biased reports against Israel and even popular opinion.", Smith says. "Israel faces difficult times ahead and needs the active support of an informed Christian community who understand the Biblical right of the Jews to the land of Israel and their eternal covenant with God. "

This book, written from a Christian perspective by an American Christian living in Europe provides documentation of the growing tide of hatred Jewish people are facing, along with an explanation of the covenant and ties between the Church and the Jewish people.
