DENVER -

Frieda, an adorable red fox, is curious about the world around her and, as a result, she never knows what adventures she might find. She stars in this new children's book featuring two stories. In the first tale, she meets a big brown bear with bad eating habits. In the second story, she hears beautiful music at a church hidden in the forest, but she learns the church might not welcome everyone.

"Frieda Tails Volume 2: Frieda & the Big Brown Bear and the Church in the Forest" is the second book in a series starring Frieda, who is based on a real fox that regularly visits the author's family home in Grand Lake, Colo., near Rocky Mountain National Park. In this new novel's first story, Frieda encounters a bear in a dumpster. He admits that he eats whatever he finds, but he doesn't feel well afterward. She introduces him to someone who shows him how to eat healthy food and exercise, and the change in diet soon works its magic. In the second tale, Frieda runs across a church with wonderful music and smiling people. When she is warned by a friendly porcupine that the church might not want her to attend, she comes up with a solution to share God's love with all of her friends in the forest.

With her earnest rhyming messages about important acts in daily life - eating right and accepting everyone for who they are Kimberly Baltz has created a read-aloud book that hits just the right note. Boldly drawn illustrations by Marty Petersen add an element of charm to the book.

Author Kimberly Baltz received a bachelor's degree from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law. Baltz, who has written stories and poetry since she was a young girl, produces art with acrylics and pastels. Illustrator Marty Petersen has degrees in illustration and commercial art from the Kendall School of Design in Michigan. Petersen, who grew up drawing, sculpting and painting, has worked as a designer and illustrator for several years and enjoys illustrating children's stories. The two also joined forces on the first book in the series: "Frieda Tails Volume 1: Frieda Goes to Town and Frieda, Jack, and the Box."
