Diablo magazine honored nine recipients for its annual Threads of Hope Awards; Robert Pack, from the Troy and Alana Pack Foundation; Dave and Lori Sanson, for HomeAid of Northern California; Lou Bordisso, an advocate with early-onset Alzheimer's disease; and Janet Herman, for the All-Star swim program. Threads of Hope Honoree Cancer Crusaders included Bob Hammer, with Have a Ball Foundation; Sandra J. Wing, for Healing Therapies Foundation; Lisa Monroe, for Camp Okizu; and Bonnie Waters, for the Cancer Support Community. All recipients were honored for their contributions to the East Bay community at a reception on December 5 at the Orinda Theatre. In addition to the awards event, the honorees and their organizations have been featured in the December issue of Diablo magazine.

For the past 19 years, Diablo has presented Threads of Hope Awards, soliciting nominations for exceptional volunteers who give their time to charitable causes in the East Bay. After considering each nominee's length of service, hands-on involvement, and impact on the community, a panel of judges representing East Bay businesses and philanthropic organizations chose nine honorees.

This year marked the inauguration of the Steven J. Rivera Visionary Award. Mr. Rivera, Founder and President of Diablo Publications, received this award for his impressive work in creating and continually supporting the Threads of Hope program. The new award will be presented each year to one individual who possesses a similar vision and passion for establishing a philanthropic East Bay cause.

The 2013 panel of judges included Stephen Lesher, vice president, Dean and Margaret Lesher Foundation; Jessica Aguirre, NBC Bay Area's news anchor; Mark Flower, senior vice president and regional director of Wells Fargo Private Bank; Amy MacEwen, marketing and advertising manager, Oakland Athletics; and Carole Wynstra, vice president of marketing, Walnut Creek Library Foundation.

"Diablo's 2013 Threads of Hope Awards winners embody the true spirit of the season," states Barney Fonzi, Group Publisher for Diablo Publications. "These 'threads' act as the strengthening ties in our community, making our home a better place for everyone through the generous gift of their time and passion."
