SALEM, Ore., Dec. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ David A. Koop, Inspirational Speaker and Bestselling Author has just returned from Miami, Florida where his Bestselling Memoir; "Cancer - It's A Good Thing I Got It!: The Life Story of a Very Lucky Man" was awarded a Gold Medal in the Readers' Favorite International Book Awards Competition.

The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with the Miami Book Fair International, the largest book fair held in the United States. Debra Gaynor, CEO of Readers' Favorite was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening's event.

"I am still walking three feet off the ground," says Bestselling Author, Koop. "There are steps that as authors we can take to help increase the sales of our book and thereby increase their chances of appearing on a bestseller list. But critical acclaim that's completely different, a panel of judges unknown to the author must all read and agree that this particular book is worth critical acclaim. There were thousands of books and authors from around the world and my book received a Gold Medal. I am just so honored to have received this award."

The most common statement from critics and readers alike is "Cancer -It's a Good Thing I Got It! is not your ordinary survivor's story."

It's the perfect guidebook for 100% living while you are alive! This book contains simple strategies for living a life of abundance in health, finances, relationships, and contribution. "Cancer- It's a Good Thing I Got It!" surprised me because it was not just a guidebook for those people who are directly or indirectly affected by this terrible disease. David quickly pulled my attention into the book with his 'Live life without boundaries' approach to life. David's life story is simply one that could never be made up...it's too enthralling. He does discuss his battle with cancer, but that is not the foundation of the book. The foundation of this book is about sticking to your core values, living life 100%, surrounding yourself with the right people, and loving those around you," said Dave Sheffield.

"I had the great joy of meeting authors from around the world, just a few of the nations represented included Singapore, Pakistan, Australia and India. What a truly great evening was had, as we each shared our experiences with each other," said Koop. "I also had the chance to meet and speak privately with Eriq La Salle, the renowned TV and film actor, director and producer, best known for his portrayal of Dr. Peter Benton on the TV show E.R. He received a Medal for his new book "Laws of Depravity."
