Daniel Wagner Releases THE FLOODGATES

Since childhood, author Daniel Wagner has been fascinated by the dams along the Columbia River. "I am a child of the Pacific Northwest and grew up with the Bonneville Power Administration, Grand Coulee Dam and in one way or the other have shared my life with characters I have elaborated on," says Wagner. His new novel, "The Floodgates" (published by AuthorHouse), combines his love for the dams and an exciting story together to create a riveting new read.

The novel focuses on the lives of several characters living near the Columbian River below the Grand Coulee Dam. The Dam is a primary source of hydroelectric power and irrigation for the Pacific Northwest and holds back Lake Roosevelt. Dave, an information technology trouble shooter for Bonneville Power Administration, early on encounters a hacker in the BPA systems that monitor the power grids of the Columbia River Dams. He becomes embroiled in a cerebral cat and mouse game with an unseen provocateur. Jake, Keith and Nora eke out existences in the Columbia basin, always looking for the rainbows that escaped them through life. Kirk, the geology professor from a local college, takes an interest in the area above the dam where the rocks reveal fissuring and the strata shows telltale signs of movement and cracking. The lives of the residents below Lake Roosevelt and following the Columbia's pathway will soon become unwilling participants in a tragedy of epic proportions.

"I think of my book as a bellwether," Wagner writes. "In geological time, the terrain has been subject to strata movements that very well could affect the populations in the not too distant future."

Daniel Wagner was born in Tacoma, Wash. He grew a familiarity with the Columbia Basin while working at positions in that area and over time recognized the significance of the Columbia River on the region's commerce. Wagner and his fiancé now reside in Ellensburg. He spends time painting and is currently working on a second novel.
