EDINBURG, Texas

Children and younger adolescents in today's world are bombarded with information from electronic media and, in particular, the Internet. According to author Robert Ruiz Jr., much of what children see and read has little redeeming social value. Ruiz, in writing "Destiny's Journey" (published by AuthorHouse), seeks to provide children and youth with an imaginative adventure story rooted in the values of family and friendship that stand the test of time: love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, faith and patience.

"Destiny's Journey" is an exciting, suspenseful story loaded with crisis and danger that spans between Mexico and the United States.

Readers follow Pico Pequin and his family as they strive to reach America. Disaster befalls Pico and his parents, Papa Jalapeno and Mama Serrano, when the ship that they secretly boarded sinks very early in the journey. Pico and his parents are separated, with him not knowing if they are alive or dead. As he struggles to survive and search for his family, depending on the help of others, he matures and perseveres through his faith.

Vivid and poignant, "Destiny's Journey" teaches togetherness and social bonding rather than separation and self-interest at the expense of others. Ruiz hopes that readers will gain a fresh, new perspective regarding the importance of diversity among people who bring unique talents, cultures and belief systems into each other's lives.
