Customer in Spanish Fort, Alabama Buys the Entire Display of Children's Books at Barnes & Noble

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), one of the nation's largest booksellers and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced a remarkable story from the Spanish Fort, AL Barnes & Noble store. A customer recently walked into that store and bought an entire display in the Children's section, including every single children's Christmas book available, a purchase of hundreds of books and further proof that the book business is alive and well across the country. To make this a heartwarming holiday story, the books will be given as gifts to children from a local Native American group, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. The customer, representing the education department of that group, bought the books with a goal of instilling a love of reading in children and starting new holiday traditions for families. Almost 500 children from the Poarch Band of Creek Indians will receive at least one new book to read and discover during the Christmas season, ensuring that books are at the heart of their holidays this year.

"In all my time at Barnes & Noble I've never quite seen a purchase like this, but it does highlight what we see every day - the book business is still thriving," said Michael Dixon, Store Manager at Barnes & Noble in Spanish Fort. "We work closely with many educational and literacy groups, but occasionally one goes above and beyond to provide the gift of reading to children, and this is certainly one of those instances. We have seen a great commitment from The Poarch Band of Creek Indians Education Department to provide children in their community with the best books for learning and imagining, and we are proud to assist with that goal this Christmas season and in the future."

"The contribution of the Poarch Creek Education Department is part of a larger community outreach program, which includes all of our Tribal departments working together to make sure that our Tribal children have a Merry Christmas!" said Sharon Delmar, of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. "We have purchased books from the Spanish Fort Barnes & Noble store for more than five years, including hundreds of books this year, and have always received wonderful service and support."

There's still time to give the gift of reading to family and friends this holiday season. Barnes & Noble's team of knowledgeable and friendly booksellers is standing by to help customers choose the perfect gift from an unmatched selection of books, toys & games, DVDs and music, NOOKs, gift items and much more available at almost 700 stores nationwide.
